At Hertford, we are all committed to providing an educational experience tailored to, and supportive of the Hertford Child. We are grateful for the rich tapestry of families who choose the Hertford Schools’ and are proud to be continually developing and improving a curriculum which provides our children with both roots to grow and wings to fly.   "There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of them is roots, the other, wings” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

We are determined that everyone will reach their full potential within a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment where we learn together, take pride in our achievements and respect individuality. All children will be given the knowledge and skills required to be lifelong learners. We recognise that there are similarities and differences between individuals and groups, but we will strive to ensure that our differences do not become barriers to participation, access, and learning. We create inclusive processes and practices where the varying needs of individuals and groups are identified and met. We all have equal rights but may have different needs and we recognise that research shows children in receipt of the pupil premium grant are more likely to have challenges to their learning than other children. We also recognise that for other chidlren in receipt of the pupil premium grant this may not be the case which is why we carefully assess and look at every child as an individual.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is a grant schools receive to support the needs of pupils who could be at risk of underachievement due to their individual circumstances,  in particular with relation to social disadvantage. This is  children who are known to be currently eligible for free school meals, or have been eligible for free school meals at any time in the last 6 years, as well as for Looked After Children, those who have been adopted from care or have left care and Service children.

What is Hertford’s Pupil Premium Strategy?

Our Pupil Premium Strategy is a 3 year plan which explains what our intent is when using the funding, the main challenges we believe some children in our schools face and how we are tackling these challenges to ensure we meet our intended outcomes. We are currently in year 3 of our strategy. The document also includes a review of how our strategy went last year. You can read the strategy here:

Please find our Pupil Premium Strategy for year 1 & 2 of our 3 year strategy below. This includes our review and outcomes of our plans.
