Art and design
At Hertford Infants, all pupils are provided with a sketch book from year 1. Their sketchbook allows them to experiment with ideas, develop skills and techniques and think critically. They will promote and instill the idea that art and design is an inherently exploratory and creative process. Their sketchbooks reflect the progression of skills outlined in the National Curriculum.
At Hertford, we aim to provide pupils with a rich and diverse experience or art, craft and design. We provide and use a wide range of artistic materials they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. In addition to this, we use outdoor learning, forest school and links with local artists and projects to ensure children are able to explore and experience their own environment through the artistic process beyond the walls of the school itself.
At Hertford, Art is linked to a range of topics and there are opportunities for artistic creativity embedded across other areas of the curriculum. A diverse range of local, national and international artists, craft makers and designers are celebrated and critiqued, while their works additionally provide aspiration and challenge to the children.
