Home Learning 20.7.20

The final home learning tasks for this term are for you to try and access your Seesaw accounts and complete the activities your new teacher has set you. There will be more activities added Tuesday afternoon for you to complete over the holidays. Your teachers won’t be using Seesaw over the break but are all looking forward to seeing what what you’ve done when we return in September. If you haven’t got a Seesaw account yet, then please ask your adults to check their emails and text from the school as they have to complete the survey first to give us permission for you to use Seesaw. This must be done by the end of Monday 20th for us to get codes out.  If you don’t have access to a device you can install Seesaw on (phone, tablet or computer,) please phone the school office and we will try our best to get paper copies out to you.

Talking to your child about race, racism and diversity:

Today the Premier League will start playing football again behind closed doors. Instead of their names "Black Lives Matter" will be written across the backs of their shirts. This is to show their support for the anti racist campaign which is taking place in lots of ways across the country and the world. You may have also seen the reports, or even been at the Black Lives Matter protest in Brighton last weekend too. At Hertford we value the diversity, culture and enthusiasm that everyone brings to our world. It is the job of all of us to make the world a better place and at Hertford we are lucky to have the most amazing children, with the most amazing ideas for our world and their futures.

Your children may see snippets of the news and have questions about race and racism. There are lots of people working hard to provide educators, parents and carers with the tools to do this. Here are some useful links which you can use to talk to your child about these issues:

Maya's book nook has a great list of books that embrace and celebrate diversity, many of which can be found in public libraries: https://mayasbooknook.com/amazon-book-list/

Newsround is also a great tool for older children: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround

Talking about Feelings

It is really important that you all, as a family, look after your mental health during this time. The powerpoint below (from Brighton & Hove PSHE team) may help you discuss difficult feelings with your child through this difficult period.
